The City is planning on building a new wastewater treatment plant. The plant will treat an average daily flow of 0.92 MGD with excess flow capacity of 10 MGD. The new plant, to be built on the west side of state Route 78, just south of the Morrison Institute of Technology, is needed to meet environmental regulations. The bulk of its estimated $19 million plant will be paid for with a federally funded loan administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Construction begin in the fall of 2015 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2017.
