Our recreational facilities assist in the improvement of the quality
of life in and around Morrison and also give us a space to take time out
and relax.

Recreation
The Director of
the Recreation Program is Theresa Farrell. All children in the
Morrison area have the opportunity to participate in the various
recreation programs sponsored by the City of Morrison through the
Morrison Rec Program. Summer gears up with the Summer Rec Program that
hosts the Romp and Stomps, the Mighty Mites, Preteen Scene, and the
Small Fry Sports Camp. Besides the local programs, the Rec Program
brings to the children several special events each year such as
horseback riding, fishing, baseball and softball camps, special
performances and other special trips.
Soon after the summer ends and children return to
school, the Fall Youth Soccer Program begins. Children in Kindergarten
through fifth grade are encouraged to participate in this league. Each
year approximately 175 children participate in a practice and game
schedule. The game schedule includes games against the Prophetstown Park
District soccer program. Games and practices take place at French Creek
Park, located just off Route 78, on the south side of Morrison.
During the winter months, the Rec Program develops the
Intramural Basketball League for children grades one through six. The
added feature to this program is that each group is invited to
participate in a scrimmage game during a half-time of a Morrison High
School home game
The Youth Soccer Program and the Intramural Basketball
Program are designed to help youngsters learn about the games, acquire
new skills and improve their newly acquired abilities. The emphasis of
the leagues are on skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork and fun.
Morrison is a community that continues to work very hard
to develop wonderful parks and areas for which recreational activities
can take place. By the continuing number of children that continue to
participate in our summer recreation program and/or become members of
the Youth Soccer League and Intramural Basketball, it is obvious that
the community enjoys the programs and wish to do everything they can to
make the parks available and appealing to the young and old alike.
